The History of AACL

After a small local private school for gifted students closed abruptly in the Fall of 2008 and left a gap in the available programs for gifted and twice-exceptional students, a group of parents and teachers recognized the need for continued services to this group of learners and formed Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning.

Our goal is to supplement the programs available through local districts by creating an exemplary school designed primarily for gifted, advanced, creative and twice-exceptional learners that is tuition-free and available to K-8 students. To accomplish this, we developed a charter school application, which was approved by the Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education on December 16, 2009. Recognizing that these learners have very unique educational needs, this school will provide a learning plan for each student with a variety of instructional methods and flexible grouping practices that cultivate strengths and support weaknesses. This school will also serve as a resource center that connects students, families, and staff from other schools to resources and information within the Pikes Peak Region.
