Employment at Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning

The selection of highly qualified, caring, and professional personnel who are committed to supporting the unique vision and mission of AACL is the single most important factor in our success. AACL seeks individuals from among the most qualified, who want to make a difference in educating all children, and who want to specialize in the education of gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Our application, screening and selection process allows our personnel to fairly consider all applicants and select those individuals who have the greatest potential for reaching our goals for students’ success and achievement.

Job descriptions and open positions will be posted periodically on the AACL website. Applicants should monitor this page and submit a new application if they are interested in a new posted position.

For the 2010-2011 school year, applications are now available for the positions listed below. Priority for the hiring process will follow the actual enrollment numbers, with a round one and round two hiring process so that at each division has a least one teacher assigned before round two applicants are considered for a second class in each division as needed.

Priority for Encore/Specials teachers will be in the following order: Art, Spanish, Music, and Physical Education. The addition of music classes the first year will depend on enrollment numbers, and physical education classes will formally start the following year, based on enrollment (although all students will have a daily physical fitness time with health standards integrated from the very beginning of year one).

Locating a highly qualified special education teacher is a high priority as we implement support for learners who enroll with twice-exceptional needs; interested applicants are welcome to call us at 719-434-6566, but please read the job descriptions (below) first, as they contain the answers to many common questions.

Additional positions the first year, supported by stipends, include Gifted/Talented Coordinator, English Language Learner Coordinator, and Lead Teacher. Positions such as paraprofessional will be filled according to demonstrated need from the student body and as the enrollment and subsequent budget numbers allow, and therapists for occupational, physical, speech and other such needs will be met on a contractual basis with licensed professionals in the area.

Applicants whose paperwork passes initial screening will be invited to a personal interview, or phone interview if currently out-of-state. Applicants should indicate at the time of interview the point at which they might prefer that their current employer is contacted for a reference check. Following a successful interview, teaching applicants may be asked to schedule a time to teach a fifteen-minute demonstration lesson, and second interviews may be asked of any candidate as well. Job offers will be contingent upon a successful application and interview process as well as a successful reference check process.

Upon offer of employment, required documentation will include but may not be limited to the following original documents:
  • A tax form W-4
  • A health certificate signed by a physician on a form provided by AACL, verifying that the applicant is able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job description
  • A Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) membership application form
